Police arrest armed kidnapper
Police have arrested a man who kidnapped a victim at gunpoint Sunday in Northeast Portland.
Timothy E. Thompson, 35, is charged with Kidnap in the First Degree, Assault in the Second Degree, three counts of Menacing, and Possession of Methamphetamine.
The victim, who knows Thompson, was treated for minor injuries.
According to police, at 12:51 p.m. on April 29, East Precinct officers responded to the 8400 Block of Northeast Broadway on a report of a disturbance where one person involved was threatening at least one other person with a shotgun. As officers responded, they were updated that two people involved in the disturbance were leaving in a blue car.
An officer located a vehicle matching that description at Northeast 82nd Avenue and Northeast Tillamook Street. Officers from East and North precincts responded to assist. Because the suspect was beleived to be armed, they conducted a high risk stop of the vehicle and took two people into custody. A shotgun was located in the trunk of the vehicle and seized as evidence.
Officers learned that the suspect pointed the shotgun at the victim and at other people in the area before ordering the victim into the vehicle and driving away.
Detectives responded to assume the investigation.
