KOIN 6 News reports that the area could see some record-breaking temperatures, specifically on Tuesday and Wednesday, which are expected to hit 96 and 97 degrees, respectively.

The hot weather is unusual for the metro area as the city typically see temperatures in the 70s during this time of the year. Portland's first 90-degree day normally doesn't happen until June 16.

With the summer-like weather approaching, it's important to stay cool and safe.

Here are some hot weather tips:

• Don't leave kids or pets in the car— even for a few minutes

• Drink plenty of water

• Wear sunscreen and limit outdoor exposure

As the week goes on, temperatures cool off a bit, but will still remain in the upper 70s to mid-80s.
