Three killed in two Thursday night crashes
Police are investigating two major Thursday night crashes where three people died.
One crash was a rollover on I-405 where two people died. The other was a female pedestrian who died after being hit by a car in Southeast Portland.
The female pedestrian is identified as Louanna Battams, 82. The other two victims were not immediately identified.
According to police, at 8:40 p.m. on June 13, East Precinct officers responded to a vehicle crash involving a pedestrian on Southeast Powell Road near 71st Avenue. Police and medical crews arrived and found the pedestrian suffering from critical injuries. She was transported to a local area hospital, where she died.
The investigation determined a car was travelling east along Southeast Foster Road and struck Battams, who was crossing Foster in an unmarked crosswalk near 71st. The driver of the car stayed at the scene of the crash, cooperated with the investigation, and was released.

Then, around 9 p.m., police responded to a rollover crash on northbound I-405 near the Highway 26 exit. A man and a woman were killed in the crash.
According to the preliminary information, the sedan overcorrected while merging and rolled over.
Officers said the driver remained at the scene.
