They were sentenced Friday, July 19, to long stretches in prison.A husband and wife who police say were responsible for more than two dozen robberies were sentenced Friday, July 19, to dozens of years in prison.

Multnomah County District Attorney Rod Underhill said 40-year-old Nigel Floyd received a 20-year prison sentence in Multnomah County Circuit Court for his part in the robberies. His wife, 40-year-old Stephanie Floyd, received a 16-year prison sentence.

The Floyds were suspects in a series of knifepoint robberies that hit businesses in Portland, Gresham, Wood Village and Happy Valley between Jan. 20 and April 11, 2018. Nigel Floyd pleaded guilty to nine counts of first-degree robbery and one count of first-degree attempted robbery. Stephanie Floyd pleaded guilty to six counts of first-degree robbery.

The robberies hit mostly small businesses and shops. Multnomah County Senior Deputy District Attorney David Hannon, who prosecuted the case, said the robberies were "fueled by addiction."

As the robberies continued, detectives from Portland, Gresham and Milwaukie police agencies and sheriffs' offices in Multnomah and Clackamas counties, began watching several types of local stores targeted by the couple. In mid-April 2018, they saw Nigel Floyd leave a white minivan, put on a mask and rob a store in the 7800 block of Northeast Glisan Street. Police captured both Nigel and Stephanie Floyd as they tried to get away.
