Seven-year-old boy dies in hospital after Saturday accident at park along the Willamette River

KOIN 6 NEWS - A Portland police vehicle at the scene of the accident in Willamette Park on Saturday afternoon.A 7-year-old boy died at a hospital after being run over by a boat trailer at Willamette Park in Southwest Portland.

The names of the victim and driver were not immediately released.

Police said the accident happened Saturday afternoon at a park boat ramp along the west bank of the Willamette River.

According to police, at 6:36 p.m. on July 20, Central Precinct Officers responded to a call of a child who was run over at the boat ramp at the park, located at 6404 Southwest Beaver Avenue, just off Southwest Macadam Avenue.

Officers arrived and the child was transported to an area hospital with life-threatening injuries. He died a short time later.

The Traffic Division's Major Crash Team responded to assist with the investigation. Preliminary information suggests the child was run over by a boat trailer.

The immediate area was closed for several hours while an investigation was completed. Anyone who witnessed the incident and has not already spoken with police is asked to call non-emergency dispatch at (503) 823-3333.
