Man wounded in 9th Portland shooting in 9 days
A man was wounded in a Saturday evening shooting in Northeast Portland's Cully neighborhood.
The name of the victim was not immediatley released. No one was immediately arrested, and no suspect information was released, either.
Police say that at 7:30 p.m. on Aug. 3, North Precinct officers responded to a report of shots fired in the 5300 block of Northeast Killingsworth Street. When officers arrived, they discovered a victim injured by gunfire.
Officers used a Portland Police Bureau-issued Individual First Aid Kit to provide initial treatment to the victim until medical crews arrived to take over care. The victim was transported to a hospital for treatment. Initial information suggests that the injuries are non-life threatening.
The suspect was gone when officers arrived.
Detectives concentrated their investigation on a unit in the back of the Carlton Court Apartments near a playground.
A woman at the complex told KOIN 6 News she's related to the man who was shot.
Another woman who lives nearby said Saturday's shooting happened just about 10 blocks from where Portland State University basketball star Deante Strickland was killed the day before.
"I don't like it, we can do better as a community," said Shell Preston. "There is a lot of kids up-coming. We have got to do better, show our kids a better way to live because this is getting worse and summertime is here now — it's going to get even worse before it's going to get better. We got to do better as a community, everyone. Everyone has to do their part."
