Franz loaf getting a little re-fresher
Franz Bakery is making its spinning loaf a little fresher.
The large sign that has spun on top of the company's Northeast 11th Avenue building for six decades came down Monday, Aug. 26, so the company could give it a good scrub and rewrap it. The idea is to make the loaf lights up better at night.
The bakery added the sign in 1956 on Franz's 50th anniversary. Since then, marketing coordinator Abby Johnson said it has been refreshed a few times and a tail was added to make it look more like a bread package. The loaf should be returned by mid-October.
"We know it will be missed as an important part of the Northeast Portland skyline, but it will be back and looking better than ever," Johnson said.
