Special Portland police units made 68 traffic stops and one arrest during a continuing crackdown on illegal street racing over weekend before Labor Day.
Police also seized a loaded hangun and towed a vehile during the Aug. 31-Sept. 1 weekend.
Nathan M. Hixson, 22, of Vancouver was booked into the Multnomah County Detention Center on charges of reckless driving and reckless endangering.
Police say the units are concentrating on North and Northeast Portland.
"The Portland Police Bureau will continue its efforts in educating community members about the dangers of speed racing. This education will be conducted on our social media platforms and through one-on-one conversations with participants. Enforcement action will also continue against individuals who are suspected of committing these types of crimes," police said in a statement.
So far this year, the bureau's Major Crash Team has been called out at least 45 times and 35 people have died in crashes on Portland streets, far more than at the same time last year.
