The Portland Police Bureau says it arrested another driver during an enforcement mission seeking out illegal street racing during the weekend.
Salem resident Enrique Magana, 47, was charged with unlawful possession of a loaded firearm after being booked into jail here around 2 a.m. on Sunday, Sept. 15, according to local records. The gun was confiscated.
Authorities say evidence of three "separate" incidents of allegedly attempting to elude police are also being considered in this case.
Court docs report that Magana was convicted of DUII in 2012, and was booked on a second-degree burglary charger earlier this year. He was released from jail due to "emergency" overcapacity, according to jail records.
Police say the North Precinct, Traffic Divison and Air Support Unit continue to patrol North and Northeast Portland, and conducted 17 traffic stops this weekend.
"The Portland Police Bureau will continue its efforts in educating community members about the dangers of speed racing," officers said.
There have been 41 traffic deaths in Portland so far this year.
