Cristian Lennon, 27, had fallen on hard times in recent years, but family wants justice after death.

VIA KOIN 6 NEWS - Cristian Lennon in happier times. A woman is demanding justice after her brother was killed by a hit and run driver, KOIN 6 News reports.

It happened on Sunday in Portland's Cully neighborhood on Portland Highway/Lombard Street at NE 45th Avenue. Portland police responded to a call in that area around 8 p.m. and found an unconscious person lying in the road. The victim died at the scene.

Now identified as 27-year-old Cristian Lennon, road flares and flashing lights mark the spot where he lost his life.

His family is heartbroken that the driver didn't stop, and they want whoever did this to be held accountable.

"They hit someone's son," said sister Brianna Johnson. "Someone who was loved. Someone who had a kind heart, and someone that if you would've hit him and he still would've been alive, he probably would've forgiven you if you just stopped."

Lennon was walking on Northeast Portland Highway near 45th Avenue when he was hit by a car. The driver left the scene.

"He had a family that loved him no matter what he was going through and that's what shakes us up so much," said Johnson. "For that to happen to him, and for somebody to hit him and not even stop, not even to make sure that he is okay."

Johnson tells KOIN 6 that her brother moved to Portland around two years ago. He had fallen on hard times and was homeless, but still kept his spirit.

VIA KOIN 6 NEWS - Cristian Lennon, right, is shown here. "Goofy, kind-hearted," said Johnson. "He would give you the shirt off his back. He's amazing—just a beautiful soul. He was doing okay and he was trying. That is one of the things that hurts the most."

The highway is designated as a "high-crash street" by the Portland Bureau of Transportation. Police are looking for the driver of a late 1990s red or maroon Chevy Blazer that left the scene.

"I want that person to pay for what they did," said Johnson. "I hope that their conscious just eats them up until they come forward or someone comes forward because this isn't right."

Lennon's family has set up a GoFundMe account to help pay to bring him back to Texas and bury him.
