The victim's name has not been released. The Traffic Division's Major Crash Team is investigating the collision.

The crash snarled traffic across the bridge into the night. It was the second serious crash of Oct. 3 that backed up freeway traffic. Earlier, a semi-truck overturned in the northbound lanes of Interstate 405 near the Southwest Fourth Avenue overpass, causing lengthy delays on area freeways.

Portland police said that at about 6:48 p,m, on Oct. 3, North Precinct Officers responded to a crash involving a pedestrian and a semi-truck on southbound Interstate 5 at the Fremont Bridge. The pedestrian died at the scene.

The truck driver cooperated with investigators.

Police have described the pedestrian attempting to cross the interstate as an adult male "wearing all dark clothing."

All lanes of I-5 southbound were closed at the Fremont Bridge. Traffic was diverted for several hours while investigators gathered evidence.

Anyone with information about the crash is asked to call non-emergency dispatch, 503-823-3333.
