Homicide detectives investigating death in St. Johns
Portland Police continue to investigate after a man was found dead on a street in the St. Johns neighorhood on Monday, Oct. 14.
On Tuesday, Oct. 15, homicide investigators identified the man killed as 65-year-old Ricky Malone Sr. The state medical examiner reported that Malone died from a gunshot wound. Malone's family has been notified.
Police said the body was found in the 10200 block of North Mohawk Avenue around 6:14 a.m. on Monday, Oct. 14. Police said at the time that there was no threat to the community.
KOIN 6 News reports that the incident began with a very small crime scene surrounding Malone's body — but it was expanded to included a three-block area and a damaged car as police continued to investigate.
Police said they were initially called to the scene for a welfare check.
