KOIN 6 NEWS - Portland Fire & Rescue vehicles on the scene of a fire.Every member of a family of three was injured in an early morning two-alarm fire in a Southeast Portland duplex early Sunday.

The names of the victims were not immediately released.

According to Portland Fire & Rescue, the adult couple were both experienced minor smoke inhalation injuries and their adult son had significant burns on his body. All refused to be transported to the hospital.

The fire broke out in a duplex unit at Southeast 136th Avenue and Powell Boulevard just after 4 a.m. on Dec. 1. The first arriving crews found heavy fire and smoke from the unit, with fire threatening several other nearby residences.

The adult couple and their adult son were inside when the fire started but made it out and were in a neighbors home by the time fire crews arrived.

Incident commanders called for a second alam assignment — which doubled the number of firefighters, engines and trucks at the scene — because of concern the fire could spread to nearby homes.

The fire was under control within an hour but crews remained on scene for several hours performing clean up and salvage work to the affected homes. No other injuries were reported.

Fire investigators were sent to the scene and said that smoke alarms were a factor in the injuries, but did not say whether they were working or not. The said the affected unit was a total loss and minor damage to the adjoining duplex unit and two homes in close proximity was approximately a loss of $250,000.

Portland Fire & Rescue investigators have not determined a direct cause at this time but are continuing to collect evidence and interview witnesses at the scene.
