Snow now predicted to fall in Portland area
Snow is now being predicted in the Portland area late Sunday and early Monday, and possibly for the following few days, too.
The most recent forecasts say snow could start falling to the 500 foot level Sunday night, with two or more inches of accumulation at the higher levels.
The ski lifts on Mt. Hood were closed at 2 p.m. on Saturday because of high winds. The Oregon Department of Transportation has advised drivers to avoid the mountain if at all possible until Monday morning.
There is the potential for more snow Wednesday and Thursday because of expected strong East winds bringing even colder temperatures into the Willamette Valley.
State, regional and local transportation agencies say they are preparing for the predicted conditions.
