TIM HERMAN/INTEL CORPORATION - Cranes at Intel's Ronler Acres where the next big fab is going up.Intel, the state's largest private employer, announced on Thursday it plans to donate millions to help coronavirus relief efforts in Oregon and other areas the company operates.

The Intel Foundation, the philanthropic arm of the chipmaking giant, will provide $4 million to community foundations and organizations in Oregon and other areas focused on food security, shelter, medical equipment and small-business support.

The Foundation will also match up to $2 million in donations from employees to food banks, school districts and children's hospitals in the area.

"The Intel Foundation is committed to improving lives around the world and supporting communities during global crises and natural disasters," the company said in a statement.

Intel operates four large manufacturing campuses in Hillsboro, including the massive Ronler Acres campus, the largest Intel factory in the world. This week, a contractor working on expanding the Ronler Acres facility tested positive for COVID-19, the disease caused by the novel coronavirus.

In addition to Oregon, Intel says donations will be made in Arizona, California, Massachusetts, New Mexico and Texas, as well as organizations in Costa Rica, India, Ireland, Israel, Malaysia, Mexico and Vietnam.

The donations come a week after Intel announced it would donate 1 million gloves, masks and other personal protective equipment to hospitals, which are desperately needed as nurses and doctors treat COVID-19 patients.
