No respiratory symptoms or other staff impacted by Coffee Creek Correctional incident

Tualatin Fire and Rescue was called out to Coffee Creek Correctional Facility in Wilsonville at 10:20 a.m Friday to respond to an incident involving a white powder included in a letter sent to the prison.

According to TVFR Spokesperson Cassandra Ulven, the male employee exposed to the powder experienced a rash shortly thereafter but no other symptoms. CCCF shut down the HVAC system to the mailroom and isolated the patient while waiting for the HAZMAT unit from TVFR.

No other workers in the mailroom at the time were exposed to the powder or had any symptoms, she said. The man was transported to an area hospital for evaluation and Oregon State Police are looking into the letter.

According to Ulven, this is the third time in six months that TVFR has responded to an incident at CCCF involving white powder found in the mailroom.
