Forensics uniform stolen during car prowl, police on alert
Portland Police Bureau officials are concerned after a Portland Police Bureau forensics uniform was stolen during a car prowl in the Kerns neighborhood.
The city-owned vehicle of a criminalist with the bureau's Forensic Evidence Division had its windows smashed sometime between 3:20 a.m. and 1 p.m. Thursday, April 23, while parked in the 3000 block of Northeast Everett Street, police say.
The CSI-style investigator was alerted to the car prowl by a community member.
Police say several official items are missing, which could lead to an impersonation attempt.
Here's what been taken: coveralls with PPB patches, a lab coat with PPB patches, a half-mask respirator, a Tyvek suit, boots, rain gear and property bags.
Police say about $500 worth of gear was stolen.
