The Portland City Auditor announced three penalties for violations of new campaign finance disclosure regulations late Monday, May 18.
The office fined Mayor Ted Wheeler's reelection committee $500 and issued warnings to the committees for mayoral candidate Ozzie Gonzalez and City Council candidate Keith Wilson.
All three committees were determined to have not properly listed major contributors in their campaign advertising. The disclosure requirements were approved by Portland voters in 2018 and were first applied to races in the 2020 May 19 primary election.
The fine and warnings were issued in response to previously filed complaints. They were announced the day before the election.
In the case of the Wheeler complaint, the auditor found the required disclosure was made in a campaign mailer, but the font size was smaller than others.
