Portland police officer involved in serious collision
A Portland police officer and a female driver were taken to the hospital after their vehicles collided Saturday in Southeast Portland.
The names of the victims were not immediately released. The officer was discharged after being treated. The female driver's condition has not been not released.
According to police, the investigation began at 3:41 p.m. on May 23 when East Precinct officers responded to the intersection of Southeast 112th Avenue and Southeast Flavel Street in response to a traffic crash involving two vehicles.
Investigators have learned a Portland police officer was in a marked patrol vehicle responding to assist another Portland police officer who was asking for help. The officer involved in the crash was driving westbound on Southeast Flavel Street, approaching the intersection. An adult female, driving a gray Acura TL, was driving southbound on Southeast 112th Avenue, approaching the same intersection.
The police vehicle and the Acura collided at the intersection. The collision caused the police vehicle to flip several times and land on its roof. The Acura had front end damage.
According to police, the woman was transported to urgent care by a Portland police officer to receive medical care. The officer involved in the crash was transported to a nearby hospital, and has since been released.
The intersection was closed to traffic a block in every direction for several hours for the Major Crash Team to conduct its investigation.
