Singer Hill Cafe, Yvonne Haney partner in new restaurant
A brunch restaurant and coffee shop has opened within the previously existing Singer Hill Cafe, combining two Oregon City restaurants that had closed in the pandemic's wake.
Yvonne's at Singer Hill opened for takeout starting in August and dine-in service starting Sept. 1 at 623 Seventh St. The restaurant, open from 7 a.m.-3 p.m. daily, is run by Yvonne Haney, who this spring announced the permanent closure of her previous restaurant downtown, which she opened at the age of 22 in 2014.
Phil and Vicki Yates have owned Singer Hill Cafe since it opened 13 years ago and are leasing the space to Haney. COVID-19 altered their plans to retire in 2023, since they are both in their late 60s.
"Given our advancing years and the many changes that need to be made to reopen a COVID-friendly cafe, we have decided to retire from the restaurant business," Vicki Yates said.
Haney created a GoFundMe page for community donations to cover costs of restarting her restaurant, initially setting a goal of $10,000. Community members contributed a total of nearly $20,000 after she raised the goal to $15,000 to cover costs for new equipment, licenses, fees and a deposit on the space.
"The amount of support this community has shown us is so incredible, so completely far past what we ever expected, that we cannot even begin to find the words to express our overwhelming sense of humility and gratitude," Haney said.
World HeARTs Fair Trade had remained an active business in the Singer Hill Cafe building. On Sept. 2, the Three Rivers Artist Gallery reopened in the building, showing over 40 local artists doing ceramics, paintings, jewelry and more.
