New York Times reports that law enforcement officers killed a reported antifa supporter in Washington.

VICE TV - Michael Reinoehl on his VICE TV interview. The man suspected of shooting a Trump supporter in downtown Portland on Saturday, Aug. 27, has been killed by law enforcement officers attempting to arrest him, according to the New York Times.

In a late Thursday story, the Times said officers on a federal fugitive task force seeking to arrest Michael Forest Reinoehl on a warrant in the deadly shooting shot and killed him in Lacey, Washington, as they tried to take him into custody.

Reinoehl is suspected of killed Aaron "Jay" Danielson in Portland after clashes between Trump supporters and counter-protesters. Danielson was reportedly a member of the conservative Patriot Prayer organization and Reinoehl was reportedly a supporter of antifa, a loose-knit left-wing organization involved in many Portland protests.

Reinoehl was killed by officers the same day Portland police issued a warrant for his arrest, according to Times. The FBI located Reinoehl in Washington and an officer shot him when he "pulled a gun," the Washington Post quoted a Justice Department official as saying.

The Times reported the story shortly before VICE TV was scheduled to present a report about Reinoehl, in which he reportedly claimed he shot Danielson in self-defense. According to a press release about the report, Reinoehl said he was preventing himself and a friend of color from being murdered.

In the VICE TV interview clip, Reinoehl said, "I had no choice." But he then adds, "I mean, I, I had a choice. I could have sat there and watched them kill a friend of mine of color, but I wasn't going to do that."

Video and eyewitness reports of the shooting are inconclusive. KOIN 6 News crews witnessed two people yelling and having an altercation near Southwest Third Avenue and Alder Street around 8:45 p.m. on Saturday. Someone sprayed mace and someone pulled out a gun. The crews heard shots fired, then a wounded man, later identified as Daniels.

Police confirmed just before 9:30 p.m. Saturday that the victim, who was shot in the chest, had died. According to The Associated Press, Danielson was wearing a hat bearing the insignia of Patriot Prayer, a right-wing group whose members have frequently clashed with protesters in Portland in the past. Police have not said whether Danielson was armed.

Danielson's friends in Portland dispute that he was dangerous or a racist, calling him a "great guy" who believed in free speech.

The killing has become a national story, with both President Donald Trump and Democratic challenger Joe Biden weighing in on it.
