Police: Woodburn city bus hijacking ends in arrest
A man has been arrested on kidnapping and robbery charges after he allegedly armed himself with a wooden "tire thumper" and tried to hijack a Woodburn bus on Sunday, Sept. 13.
Aurelio Navarrete Ramirez, 32, was charged with third-degree robbery, second-degree attempted kidnapping, menacing, coercion, unlawful use of a weapon and unauthorized use of a motor vehicle. According to Woodburn Police Department,
Navarrete boarded a Woodburn city bus and then ordered the driver take him out of town.
Instead, the driver took the bus to the Woodburn police department where he exited the vehicle and called for police.
Navarrete, who was the lone passenger on the bus, then stole the vehicle, police said, and drove it to Gervais where it was located at the 1000 block of Fifth Street.
Navarrete was arrested by Woodburn police at a nearby residence and transported to Marion County Jail.
