Woman arrested on arson charges after 10 fires
A woman has been arrested for a series of early Sunday fires in Southeast Portland.
No one was injured in the 10 fires, which included two building fires, a fire at a homeless camp, two dumpster fires at an apartment complex, two garbage bin fires, a mailbox fire, and two car fires, including one that spread to a carport.
Sierra Nicole Murdock, 26, was originally arrested on unrelated charges but was then charged with two counts of Arson I. More charges are anticipated as the investigation progresses.
According to Portland Fire & Rescue, the fires were called in between 1:30 a.m. and 4:15 a.m. on Oct. 18 in the area of Southeast 161st and Southeast Alder, Southeast 160th and Southeast Stark, and several locations in the vicinity along East Burnside Street.
Police officers responding to the suspicious fires extinguished two of them using extinguishers from their patrol cars. They subsequently arrested Murdock in the area on non-arson related charges.
No damage estimates were immediately provided.
