Northeast Portland church damaged by fire Saturday
A fire that broke out at a Northeast Portland church early Saturday has forced Sunday's scheduled Mass to be conducted online.
No one was injured in the fire at the Well Community Church, which is located at 1734 N.E. First Avenue. It was reported just before 3 a.m. on Oct. 31, according to Portland Fire & Rescue.
Responding firefighters said the church's back porch was on fire. PF&R first checked inside for victims but found no one. The fire was then taken down in less than 15 minutes.
No details on the damage to the structure were immediately provided.
Because of the building's condition and the ongoing investigation, the church will hold its weekly gathering online at 10 a.m. Sunday. And though the cause has yet to be officially determined by PF&R investigators, church officials said the fire was not an act of violence.
