Police were notified about the burglary by someone watching the two men on a security camera inside the restaurant.

COURTESY PPB - The pried open door of the North Portland sandwich shop.Two burglary suspects were arrested after being caught inside a sandwich shop in the University Park neighborhood on Saturday, Oct. 31.

Christian Hansen, 41, and John Whitt, 50, were both booked into the Multnomah County Detention Center on charges of burglary in the second degree.

According to police, at 6:09 a.m. on Oct. 31, North Precinct officers responded to a call of a break in to a sandwich shop in the 5400 block of North Lombard Street. The caller was watching two suspects on a security camera inside the closed restaurant.

Officers surrounded the building and challenged the suspects, who were the arrested.

The preliminary investigation determined that the suspects entered the building by prying open a door. While inside they attempted to open a safe before being arrested.
