Sportswear giant Nike to lay off 700 workers
Nike Inc. will lay off at least 700 workers, according to a notice filed with local and state officials.
The sportswear giant said the update reflects "the number of individuals to be permanently separated" from its workforce at its world headquarters just outside Beaverton. The update also reflects "permanent reductions" anticipated through Jan. 8, 2021.
None of the workers being laid off are members of a labor union, the notice added.
The notice was submitted under the Worker Adjustment and Retraining Notification (WARN) Act, which requires the government to be notified of major layoffs.
The company also announced layoffs last summer.
In July, the Pamplin Media Group reported Nike would lay off at least 500 workers. The first round of layoffs was expected on Oct. 1, with more to follow, Nike Vice President Kim Lupo stated in the notice dated Thursday, July 23.
