Brenda Stader, 50, dies after a PGE vehicle backs into her while repairing damaged power lines on Highway 26 on Jan. 13.

COURTESY PHOTO: KOIN (6) NEWS - A PGE van was linked with a fatal collision that left a flagger dead on Wednesday. A Portland woman working as a construction flagger died after a utility company vehicle backed into her near Sandy, authorities say.

Oregon State Police troopers responded to the incident around 10:45 a.m. Wednesday, Jan. 13, on Highway 26 near milepost 32, west of East Cherryville Drive.

Investigators believe Joshua Rinard, 41, of Sandy, was backing up a Portland General Electric van on the north side of Highway 26 when the vehicle hit 50-year-old Portland resident Brenda Stader, who was assisting with traffic control.

Stader was an employee of Northwest Traffic Control, not PGE, police say. Her injuries were fatal.

Sandy Fire Department and Oregon Department of Transportation officials also responded to the scene.
