Northbound I-205 reopens after closure
Northbound Interstate 205 has reopened after being closed at the Interstate 84 exit through Friday morning because of a death investigation.
Traffic was being diverted onto westbound I-84. Officials urge drivers to avoid the area through the morning.
The Oregon Department of Transportation said several vehicles were involved in a crash and the Portland Police Bureau said a deceased person was found on the freeway.
Friday after, police said it was investigating a possible suicide. According to the police, the preliminary investigation indicates an adult female may have jumped from the Northeast Halsey Street overpass and then was struck by multiple vehicles.
The closure quickly led to a lengthy backup that is expected to continue for hours.
This is the fourth Major Crash Team activation and fifth traffic related fatality for 2021 in the City of Portland.
