Fatal shooting surge continues Monday in Cully neighborhood
The surge in shootings that began last year continued late Monday with one person killed and another wounded in Northeast Portland.
The names of the victims were not immediately released. No suspect information was available, either.
Police responded to nearly 170 shooting calls in the first two months of 2021, compared to just 88 last January and February. Last Saturday night, two people were shot and killed in a bar on Southeast McLaughlin Boulevard. They are identified as Williams Peters, 39, of Portland, and Adam David-Lawrence Arrambide, 36, of La Pine.
According to police, at 10:19 p.m. on March 1, officers responded to the report of shots in the Cully neighborhood, near the 5200 block of Northeast Alberta Street.
Officers arrived to find that two people had been shot. One of the people was deceased, the other person was transported to a hospital by ambulance.
Officers set up a crime scene to preserve evidence and began to canvass the neighborhood for witnesses. Homicide detectives responded to take over the investigation.
