Lake Oswego School District Superintendent Lora de la Cruz sent a message to community  members Wednesday alerting them of multiple positive COVID-19 cases in the district.

The letter stated that the virus was contracted at a social gathering outside of school on Thursday, Feb. 25.

"I am notifying you of cases of COVID-19 in our learning community so that you may take the necessary precautions to help minimize potential exposure," she said in the letter.

Those at the gathering had participated in athletic practices, as well as an onsite activity between Friday, Feb. 26, and Monday, March 1.

The district will personally contact those exposed, which would include people at those events or those in close contact with the people at the events.

District nurses and school personnel are focused on contact tracing and communicating with known contacts about potential exposure and quarantine guidelines, the letter said.

As a result, all levels of Lake Oswego High School football and boys soccer practices and games are canceled this week.

All levels of LOHS athletic practices for baseball, boys basketball and girls lacrosse are also canceled.
