Portland Commission Jo Ann Hardesty was falsely accused of being involved in a hit-and-run crash.

KOIN 6 NEWS - Portland Police Chief Chuck Lovell at a previous press conference.Portland Police Chief Chuck Lovell said Wednesday he expects more information about the resignation of police union president Brian Hunzeker to be released soon.

Hunzeker resigned after the Portland Police Association admitted there was some connection to the leak of false allegations surrounding Commissioner Jo Ann Hardesty.

"There will come a time in the very near future where we will learn exactly what actions PPA President Hunzeker took leading up to his resignation. We'll know that in due time; it has to be part of the process," Lovell said during a March 24 press conference.

When asked if it troubles him that there are personnel issues within the bureau, Lovell said it does.

"It's really about the overall … kind of approach from top down making sure we have the appropriate expectations and systems in place to keep things like this from happening in the future," he said.

Lovell also made comments about the spike in shootings and the new Enhanced Community Safety Team.
