The freeway has reopened after the investigation into the early Saturday collision.

The names of the two adult males were not immediately released. According to police, one driver died at the scene and the other died after being transported to a hospital.

According to police, at 5:16 a.m., North Precinct officers were dispatched to a report of a serious injury crash on northbound I-5 at North Greeley Avenue. When officers and paramedics arrived, they discovered that two vehicles had collided and one driver was dead.

The Portland Police Major Crash Team responded to investigate. Northbound I-5 was closed and traffic was being detoured onto I-405. The lanes reopened around 9 a.m.

The preliminary investigation indicates that one of the involved vehicles was driving southbound in the northbound lanes and hit the other vehicle head-on.
