Motorcyclist dies during illegal street race
A motorcyclist was killed in a crash with a car during an illegal street racing event early Monday.
The name of the victim was not immediately released.
The driver of the car was identified as Raphael Andres Orozco, 19, of Portland. He was cited for reckless driving.
Investigators believe speed was likely a factor in this crash, and that both vehicles involved may have been involved in speed racing.
According to police, at about 12:51 a.m. April 19, North Precinct officers responded to the report of a crash in the 6200 block of North Marine Drive.
When the officers arrived, they found that a motorcycle rider had crashed into Mercedes. The motorcyclist died at the scene.
It was reported to police that there were approximately 350 people in the area for an illegal street racing event taking place at the time.
The Portland Police Bureau Major Crash Team responded to investigate. North Marine Drive was shut down in the area for the next couple of hours.
Anyone with information about the crash is asked to call 503-823-3333 and reference case No. 21-104706.
This was the 23rd activation of the Major Crash Team, and the 21st fatal crash in Portland in 2021.
