Second pedestrian fatality in same intersection in two weeks
A second pedestrian has been hit and killed by a vehicle at the same intersection in Northeast Portland.
The name of the newest victim was not immediately released. Police are looking for the driver who fled the scene.
According to police, officers were called to the intersection of Northeast 82nd Avenue and Alberta Street just after 11 p.m. Saturday, April 24, on the report of a crash. When the officers arrived, they discovered an adult man with fatal injuries.
The driver did not remain at the scene. No suspect information was immediately available.
Police temporarily closed 82nd in both directions between Northeast Wygant and Killingsworth streets for the early stage of the investigation.
Anyone with information about the crash is urged to call the police nonemergency line at 503-823-3333.
The victim's identity is being withheld until the next of kin is notified.
A man was hit and killed by a vehicle at the same intersection on the evening of Saturday, April 10. In that incident, The driver remained on scene and cooperated with officers. No citations were immediately issued.
