Is Jeff Goldblum joining a Portland Dungeons & Dragons podcast?
It appears a famous Hollywood actor is joining a Portland-based Dungeons & Dragons podcast.
"Dark Dice," a horror-podcast created by Portland-based Fool & Scholar Productions and husband/wife team of Travis Vengroff and Kaitlin Statz launches its second season next month and announced Wednesday that actor Jeff Goldblum, who starred in such movies as "Jurassic Park," "Independence Day" and "The Fly," would be joining its cast.
The podcast is part audio drama, part "actual play podcast" where cast members record themselves playing Dungeons & Dragons, the popular tabletop game where players act out quests and slay monsters.
According to the podcast, Goldblum will play an elf sorcerer named Balmur. A sketch of Goldblum's character was also released, showing a robed figure holding a 20-sided die.
Deadline.com, which broke the news, reported that Goldblum will be voicing one of the five player-characters in the improvised audio drama, where the outcome of the story is determined by rolling dice.
"Dark Dice" takes place after a failed attempt to save the world and follows the team's hunt for revenge against another player-controlled team, Deadline.com wrote.
"To complicate mystical matters, Goldblum's team is stalked by a creature known as The Silent One, a deceptive being that steals the face and voice of any creature it chooses," the website wrote.
The season, titled "The Long March," begins May 12.
