Death of 2-year-old boy leads Lewelling residents to highlight safety issues.

Neighborhood representative Nick d'Alonzo said the online survey will close on Sept. 30 and be compiled this fall.

"Association representatives will use this data to advocate for safer streets in the city's Transportation System Planning process, which starts this winter."

Based on community concerns in response to the 2-year-old child's death, Milwaukie officials reduced the speed limit on Southeast Wichita Avenue to 20 mph from 25 mph last summer.

Although autopsy results indicated that speeding was not a factor in the crash, neighbors have long been concerned about vehicles speeding through the residential area as a bypass street between King Road and Johnson Creek Boulevard. Police indicated it was unlikely that the unknown vehicle involved in the collision sustained damage, which added to the difficulty of identifying a suspect.
