Can you spot him? Bigfoot lurks in Molalla's new city logo
Looking to help with branding and marketing opportunities for the city of Molalla, the Molalla City Council has not only given the green light to a new slogan, but a new logo as well.
The new logo combines the city's official seal with a flag that offers the slogan, some trees, and bigfoot lurking within.
On Wednesday, Oct. 13, the city council — deliberating between several choices — selected a new logo for marketing efforts. The decision comes after the city settled on a new slogan in July: "Real Adventure. Real People. Real Fun."
The Molalla Area Vision and Action Plan, which looks at Molalla's needs through 2030, calls for the city to "create a branding and marking plan to encourage entrepreneurs and attract new business." The slogan and logo approval are an early step to making that happen, according to Planning Director Mac Corthell.
"This came out of the Molalla Area Community Vision process. An economic development steering committee was seated to pursue the ED portions of the plan," Corthell explained. "They selected a few areas of critical interest to act on and hosted a kickoff meeting to recruit action team members. One of the teams is the branding and identity action team that performed substantial research and community engagement to identify the characteristics that make Molalla special."
From that work, said Corthell, they developed the logo and slogan.
"From there, staff and other community members worked with a graphic designer to put together several proofs, combining the two," Corthell said. "The initial proofs provided some elements the council liked, and some they did not. The council referred the design back to staff to incorporate the portions they approved of, eliminate the portions they did not approve of, and create a new design for proposal."
