For the second year in a row, Healthgrades listed Providence St. Vincent in the nation's top 50 hospitals.

Providence St. Vincent Medical Center has been named one of America's 50 Best Hospitals in 2022 by Healthgrades.

This award lists Providence St. Vincent in the top 1% of the country's hospitals for the second year in a row.

Hospital chief executive Jennifer Burrows said the achievement is exciting for her team, especially during the second year of the pandemic.

"Our healthcare heroes certainly have felt the hard work of dealing with caring for our community through these surges," she said. "So it's a great affirmation, and it feels wonderful."

Sometimes you see hospitals that specialize in just one area of care, Burrows said, but excellence in all areas is how Providence St. Vincent stands out.

"We have really talented caregivers, clinicians and physicians, but it's them working together that makes all the difference in the world," she said of the hospital just outside Beaverton. "And so how do we make sure we've got good ways to communicate, and we've got good team dynamics that really help us kind of move the needle. And I think it's those things in combination that's really had us make it to this being this top 1 percent in the country.

Providence St. Vincent is the only hospital in Oregon to earn the award two years in a row.

The recognition is based on data from the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services, showing outcomes for 31 common conditions and procedures measured over the previous three years.

Patients in Healthgrades' top hospitals are more likely to have successful treatment without major complications and have a lower chance of dying, according to the company's website.

In the hospitals ranked top 50 in the nation between 2018 to 2020, patients had an average 21.7% lower risk of dying than in other hospitals, measured by 17 conditions and procedures where death is the outcome.

"Here we work hard every day to set lofty goals and meet those goals. And it's always great when you get to celebrate achievements of your own goals, but when you get this external recognition that what you've achieved starts leading the country, it's really affirming," Burrows said.

Dr. Brad Bowman, chief medical officer and head of data science at Healthgrades, said: "Being among America's 50 Best Hospitals is the top achievement from Healthgrades. Hospitals such as Providence St. Vincent Medical Center are truly leading the nation and setting the standard for care

delivery."

For 2022, Providence St. Vincent also received awards for America's 50 Best Cardiac Care, 100 Best Coronary Intervention, 100 Best Critical Care, the Gastrointestinal Care Excellence Award and the Pulmonary Care Excellence Award from Healthgrades.

Healthgrades also listed Kaiser Sunnyside Medical Center in Clackamas in America's 50 Best Hospitals for this year.
