UPDATE: The Washington County Sheriff's Office says human remains were found in the vehicle in the Willamette River.

BrownThe vehicle and possible remains of 77-year-old Cornelius resident Ralph Brown, missing for nearly a year, were discovered Friday evening, May 13, according to a news release from the Washington County Sheriff's Office.

Brown — the former mayor of Cornelius — went missing May 16, 2021. Family members said he suffered from memory loss and left home in his navy blue Nissan Sentra.

Brown taught for years in the Hillsboro School District and served on the Forest Grove School Board. His disappearance resulted in months of searching and fundraisers across western Washington County.

The car was found near Rogers Landing County Park in the Willamette River in Yamhill County, according to authorities.The vehicle was found by private search and rescue company Adventures With Purpose approximately 40 feet below the surface, according to the news release.

"Yamhill County deputies said Adventures With Purpose provided a license plate they pulled off the submerged vehicle. A Yamhill County deputy confirmed the license plate belonged to Ralph Brown's vehicle he was believed to have been driving when he went missing," the Washington County Sheriff's Office said in the news release.

According to authorities, human remains were discovered inside the vehicle, but a Yamhill County Medical Examiner was not able to immediately identify the remains.
