UPDATE: Police identify victim killed Friday, hospitalized Sunday victim not yet named.

PMG FILE PHOTO - A TriMet MAX train.Two pedestrians have been struck by TriMet MAX trains within 48 hours. The first died and the second was critically injured.

Police have identified the first victim as Phillip Ellis Allen, 43. The second victim has not yet been identified.

According to the Portland Police Bureau, the most recent investigation began 9:02 p.m. on Sunday, May 15, when East Precinct officers were dispatched to a report of an accident at Northeast Jonesmore Street and Northeast 82nd Avenue involving a MAX train and a pedestrian. When they arrived, the officers found the pedestrian to be severely injured. The person was transported to an area hospital with life-threatening injuries.

The Portland Police Major Crash Team responded to investigate. During the investigation, the MAX light rail station at Northeast Jonesmore Street and Northeast 82nd Avenue was be closed.

Before that, the first investigation began at 10:32 p.m. on Friday, May 13, when East Precinct officers were dispatched to a report of a crash on East Burnside Street and Northeast 160th Avenue involving a westbound MAX train and a pedestrian. When officers arrived, they found the pedestrian to be deceased.

The Portland Police Major Crash Team responded to investigate. East Burnside is closed in both directions between Northeast 157th Avenue and Northeast 162nd Avenue during the investigation.
