Suspected drunk driver kills pedestrian in Southeast Portland
A driver has been arrested for DUII after hitting and killing a pedestrian in Southeast Portland on Monday evening.
The name of the victim was not immediately released.
The driver has been identified as Eric Caleb Ruckle, 48, of Gresham.
According to the Portland Police Bureau, this is the 55th traffic fatality of the year.
The investigation began at approximately 6:58 p.m. on Nov. 21 when East Precinct officers responded to a report of a crash on Southeast Powell Street and Southeast 138th Avenue. When officers arrived, they located an adult male pedestrian. Paramedics evaluated the victim and determined he was deceased.
The driver of the involved vehicle, an adult male, remained at the scene.
Investigators from the Major Crash Team responded to the scene. During the investigation, it was determined that the driver was impaired. After an evaluation, he was taken to East Precinct for DUII processing.
The driver was later booked into the Multnomah County Detention Center for driving under the influence of intoxicants and criminally negligent homicide.
