King City Community Foundation is collecting cards and letters to thank those battling forest fires

This fire season has been devastating, and some local residents think that while thanking all the firefighters for their tireless work is a good start, it just doesn't seem like enough.

The King City Community Foundation, which organized King City's fantastic Fourth of July celebration, is collecting thank you cards, letters and children's drawings until Oct. 6 that will be delivered to the Tualatin Valley Fire & Rescue King City Station 35.

"Hopefully enough cards will be collected so that Station 35 can then act as a conduit and funnel the cards through TVF&R and other firefighting organizations to the firefighters in the field," said Jaimie Fender, who is with the foundation.

Collection boxes can be found at the following locations: King City City Hall,15300 S.W. 116th Ave., King City; King City Civic Association, 15245 S.W. 116th Ave., King City; King City Senior Village, 11777 S.W. Queen Elizabeth St., King City; and Seishinkan Karate on Main, 12566 S.W. Main St., Tigard.

Also, people can mail cards/letters to the King City Community Foundation, P.O. Box 2791, Tualatin, OR 97062. The foundation welcomes help and ideas and will be happy to make arrangements to pick up large numbers of cards and letters as well.
