MORE STORIES

Nafisa Fai has received more than 10 times the campaign contributions that Jeff Hindley has in the race for District 1.

With the Nov. 3 elections approaching, the two candidates running for a seat on the Washington County Board of Commissioners, Nafisa Fai and Jeff Hindley, are making their final pitches to voters.

But when it comes to each candidate's campaign finance numbers, two distinct stories emerge.

Schouten did not seek re-election because he ran for an open seat in the Oregon Senate, although he lost in the May Democratic primary to Kate Lieber, who is favored to succeed state Sen. Mark Hass, D-Beaverton.

In the county commissioner race, Fai has far surpassed Hindley in both total campaign contributions and expenditures.

Fai has received $238,415 in total campaign contributions, including $198,120 in cash contributions and $40,294 from in-kind contributions, according to campaign finance information from the Oregon secretary of state's office as of Monday, Oct. 19.

Fai has spent a substantial portion of her contributions — $218,470 — and is still sitting on $27,588 in cash on hand.

Fai's largest donor is the Portland Metropolitan Association of Realtors PAC, which has given her campaign $50,000 in contributions. She has also received more than $10,000 in contributions from each of several local unions, including UFCW Local 555, Oregon AFSCME Council 75 and Local 48 Electricians PAC.

Fai has also received more than $8,600 from the Communities of Color for a Just Oregon. She also received a $16,300 in-kind contribution from TZOM Films, a Beaverton-based film production company.

Fai has received extensive endorsements from Washington County politicians, including current county board members Kathryn Harrington, Dick Schouten and Pam Treece, and statewide elected officials, including Gov. Kate Brown and U.S. Sens. Ron Wyden and Jeff Merkley.

Hindley has spent $16,001 and has $7,100 in cash on hand.

The largest contribution to Hindley's campaign has been $12,500 from Action PAC. The next largest contribution was $1,260, which Hindley paid himself. Other contributions have been largely from individual donors giving amounts of $1,000 or less.
