Residents having a hard time finding flour or other staples need to look no further than their local restaurant during the current COVID-19 pandemic.
Several restaurants in the Bridgeport Village shopping complex are now offering basic pantry items (eggs, sugar and the like) -- ingredients normally reserved to whip up large batches of food fare -- to the general public.
One restaurant, McCormick & Schmick's Grill in Tigard is now offering a so-called Chef's Market that allows customers to not only pick up food curbside but order items normally reserved for kitchen staff preparation.
"The Chef's Market sales are great all around (every category selling well) and the biggest sellers are staples like flour, pasta, bread and milk," according to Lisa Thompson, general manager of Tigard's McCormick and Schmick.
(Believe it or not, you can even purchase toilet paper as part of the restaurant's pantry program.)
Meanwhile, across the parking lot, California Pizza Kitchen is selling its own meal kits along with pantry items, fresh produce, meats, seafood, beer, wine and other items.
At the same time, Bridgeport Village restaurants, including Koi Fusion, McCormick & Schmick's Grill, California Pizza Kitchen and Sinju Sushi, are offering healthcare workers and first responders — including police officers, EMTs, firefighters, military personnel, dispatchers and healthcare workers — 10 to 20% discounts on curb-side pickups by simply showing an ID badge when picking it up.
(For the record, steaks and salmon are the big sellers at McCormick & Schmick's during this time of take-out-only food.)
"We are doing everything we can to continue to serve our loyal patrons and the Tigard community," said Thompson. "We know these are challenging times and appreciate the continued patronage that helps produce more jobs for our valued employees."
