The public is not thought at risk from a deadly shooting in Inner Southeast on February 10

On Saturday, February 10, 2018, at 3:16 p.m., Central Precinct officers responded to a shooting in the 1200 block of S.E. 7th Avenue.

When officers arrived they found a man lying on the ground; emergency medical personnel responded, and determined the adult man was dead.

Officers located a person they believed was involved in the shooting, and based on the subsequent investigation, officers do not expect further danger to the community.

Based on preliminary information in the early stages of this investigation, detectives believe there was a disturbance between the deceased man and several other people. During the altercation, an adult male fired a handgun. The deceased man was struck by gunfire.

The man who fired the handgun remained at the scene, surrendered the firearm to responding officers, and is cooperating with detectives.

Members from the Portland Police Bureau Detective Division's Homicide Detail, Criminalists with the Forensic Evidence Division, and representatives of the Multnomah County District Attorney's Office joined the investigation.

Vehicle and pedestrian traffic was closed on S.E. 7th Avenue between Taylor and Southeast Madison Streets during the investigation. The deceased man has not yet been publicly identified, pending notifications to next of kin.
