Stolen car plunges into yard, injures driver, at Mt. Tabor
On Tuesday, April 3, at 3:30 in the afternoon, East Precinct officers responded to a report that a car had crashed into a yard and a house at 17 N.E. 68th Avenue.
When officers arrived at the crash scene, they beheld a white Toyota Rav4 that had crashed down into a duplex, causing significant damage to the vehicle and structure. Officers and emergency medical responders found the driver still inside the vehicle; he appeared to be suffering from serious but non-life-threatening injuries, and was provided medical aid; after which he was transported to an area hospital by ambulance.
As officers continued the investigation, they learned that prior to the crash, the vehicle had been driven westbound on East Burnside Street at a high rate speed; after the vehicle crashed into the yard, witnesses saw three black males run from it, leaving the injured driver in the crashed Toyota Rav4.
During the crash investigation, officers also determined the SUV was a registered stolen vehicle. The injured driver has not yet been publicly identified, but is likely to be facing arrest on several charges.
Anyone with information about the crash or the theft of the vehicle should contact the Portland Police Bureau non-emergency number at 503/823-3333.
