Shots fired in Lents injure a dog; man arrested
On Friday April 20, the Portland Police Gang Enforcement detectives booked 36-year-old Anthony Wade Skillings into the Multnomah County Jail on charges of Attempted Aggravated Murder, Unlawful Use of a Weapon, Felon in Possession of a Firearm (two counts), and a parole violation.
The charges came as a result of an investigation into a shooting that occurred in the morning hours of the previous day.
On Thursday, April 19, at 7:49 a.m., East Precinct officers responded to the report of a shooting in the 9200 block of S.E. Henry Street.
Arriving officers located an occupied residence that had been struck by gunfire, as well as two parked and unoccupied vehicles that were also damaged by the gunshots.
In the course of the investigation, officers also learned a dog, which was in the home at the time of the shooting, had been struck by a bullet and had been injured. The dog was taken to a veterinary hospital in a private vehicle for treatment, and its injuries are not believed to be life-threatening. There were no other reported injuries as a result of this shooting.
Officers canvassed the area, looking for suspects and evidence. In the process, officers found evidence of gunfire in the road.
And, investigators learned of a vehicle associated with the shooting suspect. At approximately 12:30 p.m. on Friday, officers saw that vehicle being driven in the area of S.E. 145th Avenue and Division. The driver spotted the police and ran off, abandoning the parked vehicle.Skillings was eventually found in the area and taken into custody, after a witness told police that he'd been in the vehicle also. Further investigation determined that he was connected to the shooting.
