Another pedestrian-vs-MAX collision appears to have been an attempt at suicide

On Saturday June 16, at 12:41 p.m., Central Precinct and Transit Police Division officers responded to a report of a man struck by a MAX train on the Orange Line in Westmoreland, near the Bybee Transit Station, in the 2300 block of S.E. Bybee Boulevard.

Officers and medical personnel arrived and found an adult male suffering from traumatic injuries. The man has been transported by ambulance to a Portland hospital for treatment.

The preliminary investigation indicates that the man was in a restricted area, and intentionally stepped in front of a northbound MAX train.

Both directions of the Orange Line were disrupted at Bybee Boulevard, and TriMet offered bus service around the closure for those south of Bybee Boulevard. Service was resumed on the Orange Line shortly before 3 p.m. that afternoon.
