Armed juveniles break into the Lents Marshall High campus to steal and vandalize; are caught

COURTESY OF PORTLAND POLICE BUREAU - The juvenile burglars not only were armed with a loaded gun and were stealing things in the school, they also vandalized the building with paint. All three were arrested.On Friday, July 20, at 3:26 a.m., East Precinct officers responded to the report of a burglary at the temporary Grant High School site on the Marshll High campus, at 3905 S.E. 91st Avenue in the Lents neighborhood.

When officers arrived they met contract security personnel who had responded when an alarm was activated. The security personnel had heard several voices inside the school building, and waited for police to arrive.

Police officers positioned themselves around the building and called for a K-9 team to assist with the burglary investigation.

As officers searched Marshall High School, three suspects ran from the building and were taken into custody by other officers positioned outside.

Police fiund a backpack believed to belong to the suspects, inside of which was a loaded gun. Upon further inspection, officers learned the firearm had previously been reported as stolen. Officers also found vandalism, including a broken window and paint that had been spattered on the walls, lockers, and floors of the school.

The suspects were lodged at the Donald E. Long Juvenile Detention Home on charges of Burglary in the Second Degree, Criminal Mischief in the Second Degree, Theft by Receiving in the First Degree, and Possession of a Loaded Firearm in Public.

Since all those arrested were juveniles, their identities will not be provided by the Police Bureau, in accordance with Oregon State law.
