The only mystery seems to be what the shooting was all about; the shooter is in custody

Early Wednesday morning, August 1, at 1:54 a.m., East Precinct officers responded to several calls reporting gunfire near the Lucky Corner Restaurant at 13604 S.E. Powell Boulevard.

Officers spoke with witnesses in the area, and obtained a description of the shooter, which was broadcast to additional officers responding to the area.

Shortly afterward officers spotted a man nearby that matched the suspect's description. and he was taken into custody.

Officers located evidence of gunfire, and a police K-9 assisted in locating a firearm believed to have been used in this shooting. It was hidden in bushes at 13644 S.E. Powell Boulevard, and it was seized as evidence.

Police say that there have been no reports of anyone arriving at area hospitals in connection with the shooting, and officers did not locate any property or structures that had been damaged by gunfire, so it is not clear what provoked the shooting incident.

The suspect taken into custody was identified as 32-year-old Ronte D. Richard, and he was lodged at the Multnomah County Jail on charges of Unlawful Use of a Weapon, Discharge of a Firearm in the City, and Possession of Cocaine.
